Meet Coach Amy
Amy Farrell has been coaching since 1999, over the years she has coached everything from high school track and field athletes to masters runners and triathletes. Her athletes have won state championships on the track and qualified for world and national championships in triathlon.
In 2009 she was the 30-34 World Champion at the 70.3 distance and in 2014 she was the 35-39 Ironman World Champion as well as the second female amateur overall in Kona. She has been on the podium at the Ironman world championship 6 of the 8 times she has raced there. She was the overall female winner at Ironman Lake Placid in 2015 and 2017, Ironman North Carolina in 2016, and Ironman Santa Rosa in 2018.
When Amy isn’t coaching or playing triathlon she is a mom to Ruby, a Physical Education Teacher, and a crazy dog lady chasing after her 6 mutts in Northern New York.
How long have you been coaching?
I've been a high school coach for 26 years and started coaching triathletes 16 years ago.
What motivated you to begin coaching?
I love sharing the sports that have done so much for my life.
Types of athletes or race distances you prefer to coach?
I don't think I can choose between my high school athletes where I might be having to share my expertise in the triple jump, high jump, or shot put and my grown-up triathletes who might just be learning how to swim at the age of 60. I love it all.
What is your coaching philosophy?
Just like my father has told me before every race since I was 11 years old go out there and have fun. I didn't really understand that when I was younger, but the older I get the more I appreciate it and promote it. Have fun!
